The island of Phuket is a popular tourist destination in Thailand.
But the provincial government is warning that the region has a massive problem with travelers racking up medical bills they can’t pay. Around 25,000 tourists visited Phuket’s main hospital last year, and fewer than 1,000 had insurance coverage to pay for their visit. Obviously a large number of these visitors paid out of pocket for minor treatment.
But some big bills. Some estimates say unpaid bills total over $5.5 million US.
One solution the local government wants to consider: Mandatory travel insurance.
Here’s the good news for travelers: Good travel insurance is quite affordable.
The travel insurance policies we sell short-term missionaries are perfectly suitable for anyone traveling outside his/her country as a tourist. And you can get very good coverage for less than $2/day.
The government of Phuket will thank you for buying insurance before your trip.
And, of course, the coverage will work just about anywhere outside your home country. Contact us to learn more.
